A good article and definitely something that should be reviewed. However, speaking with sources within the Information Operations community over the years, there are at least two things that are inaccurate in the views expressed. The first is regarding authorities. There are limited authorities for conducting offensive Information Warfare. The new SecDef was correct in that there are authorities a plenty to "counter" any narrative, but that is still a defensive posture. Joint doctrine does not adequately address offensive information operations. Secondly, the approval processes for many types of operations are ponderous and lengthy - which by the time a plan runs through all of the wickets to get approvals, the intelligence picture has changed.
